Josten’s - Final Orders and Ring Orders
The Josten's representative will be at Smithfield High School on Wednesday, May 23, during all three lunches. They will be finalizing senior orders. Plus, they will be taking care of ordering and delivering, class rings. All interested students are encouraged to visit the representative at the table on the main corridor.

PDCCC - SAT Math Prep
Join us for a one-day special SAT Math prep session on Saturday, May 26, 2012… focusing on managing time and your nerves on the Math SAT. Perfect timing if your student(s) is registered for the June SAT. The class is $25 and registration is required. Course Information



Upcoming athletic events
Cheerleading try outs will start on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the school gym. Students must have a current physical form on file to participates.
Sports physicals will be given on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 4:30 pm in the cafeteria. Students must have a completed and signed VHSL physical form and $15.00 to take the physical.
The Spring Athletic Awards Program will be held on Wed. June 6, 2012 in the school auditorium at 7:00 pm. All Spring Athletes and their parents are invited.

Library Books - LMC End of Year Schedule
Students, overdue book notices will be in first block teacher’s boxes in the next few days. If you have overdue or lost library books, please begin now to look for those materials. Fines will be waived until May 21st.
After this date, you will be responsible for your fines. Seniors, remember your fines and/or lost books must be paid before graduation week.
Guitar/Chorus/Singer/Songwriter Coffee Houses
Friday, June 1, 2012 - Any student who is interested in participating in the coffee houses, please see Mr. Sauber in room 95. You may only perform original material. The sign up deadline is Friday.
Attention Juniors
Juniors who turned in applications to run for Senior Offices will need to sign up for an interview on May 16th and May 18th. The interviews will be conducted after school on those days. A sign up sheet to reserve a time slot will be posted outside Mrs. Moncibais’ door - room 44, until May 16th.
FCCLA Meeting - Change of date

Beginning the week of June 17, 2012,
Seth and Casey will be going to Liberty University for Boy’s State and Jessee and Mackenzie will be heading to Longwood University to engage in various mock civics and governmental activities sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
FCCLA AWARD WINNERS:
Congratulations to our five FCCLA members who competed with over 750 students in STAR Events at the FCCLA State Leadership & Recognition Conference on Friday, April 27th - Sunday, April 29th.

Dekedre McGee received a silver medal in Culinary Arts Exhibit-Decorated Cake

SHS students leaving for Jazz competition at the District VIII Jazz Festival.
Congratulations to the SHS Jazz Band who were outstanding and given a
number one rating from all three judges at the Jazz Festival competition!
The trombone section won the Best Overall Award and we had two students who were selected in the All-Star Jazz Awards: Sean Cateley, Alto Sax and Nate Johnson, Trombone.
Three debaters on our
SHS Regional I Winning Debate Team, Jessee Reon, Rachel Reon (1st Place Public Forum) and Josh Theall (3rd Place Lincoln Douglas) hold their individual medals from State competition.

Traffic alert for all motorists:
Be aware that there are two newly installed and functional Flashing 25 mph School Zone signals on Turner Drive. One signal is located approximately 100 yards from Benn’s Church after you turn onto Turner Drive from Benn’s Church Blvd. and the other is located near the beginning of the soccer field chain link fence on Turner Drive after you exit the curve. Violators will be used a traffic summons.

Policies and Procedures
Cell Phone Policy:
When a student first violates the Possession of Electronic Device Policy of Isle of Wight County Schools (Policy JECR) and the phone has been confiscated, then the student and his/her parent must meet with an administrator to complete a cell phone contract. Administrators may be available in the afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00 to hold cell phone contract sessions with parents and students.
**Parents, please, call in advance to schedule an appointment with an administrator prior to coming to school to complete a first-offense cell phone contract.
After School Procedures:
**All students must be under the supervision of a coach, a sponsor, or a teacher by no later than 3:00 p.m. daily; students will not be allowed in the halls or in the commons after 3:00 p.m.
**All students must leave campus by no later than 4:00 p.m. daily unless they are under the direct supervision of a coach or a sponsor. Students remaining after school must have prior-arranged transportation to leave campus by 4:00 p.m. or at the immediate conclusion of school activities.
