Girls Softball News! Congratulations to the Varsity Softball Team for winning the 2013 Bay Rivers District Championship. New News! Bay Rivers Tournament Championship. Smithfield High School AP students: Here's an important reminder for you.  This July, your AP scores will only be available online. You will not get scores in the mail. To get your AP scores this year, you must sign up for a free College Board account at apscore.org. In addition to creating a College Board account, you will need your AP number found on the label in your AP student Pack OR your student identifier, your SHS lunch number, to access your scores.  You will receive an email letting you know how and when to access your scores.  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Phelps in the counseling office. http://apscore.org/shapeimage_19_link_0

















































Congratulations on Two SHS Art Students whose art will be in ART SHOWS: Virginia Stephenson’s art was selected to be in the Prefaces Student Art Show at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center.  It runs until May 26th.  Also, she has a art solo show at Grow Interactive (427 Granby St., Norfolk). It runs from June 3rd-7th, 12 pm-1:30 pm.  The opening reception is June 1st 6 pm-8 pm.  Briana Willis also has a solo art show at Fairgrounds Coffee Shop at 806 Baldwin Ave #2, Norfolk from May18th-June 1st.  Opening reception is Saturday, May 18th 6:00-8:00pm *****Please come out and support our SHS Art Students!

Our Last POETRY Slam! It was a great success. Thank you to everyone who participated by sharing their poems or favorite poems. Your readings were amazing. A special thank you to our talented principals, Mr. Thrift and Dr. Byrd for the musical entertainment and to Ms.Gwaltney for the popcorn machine! So,tasty!
                      




Pictured left to right are Alexandra Crisman, Sabrina McAllister, Dekedre McGee, and Taylor Povich These four students from Smithfield High School's Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) attended the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach April 12th-14th.   Taylor Povich received a gold medal and chapter trophy in the Job Interview event.   Sabrina McAllister received a silver medal and the chapter trophy for the Leadership event.   Dekedre McGee received a silver medal and a $1500 scholarship from the Culinary Institute of Virginia for her Culinary Portfolio and Exhibit (breads) event.   Taylor and Sabrina qualified to compete at the National FCCLA conference in Nashville in July. Packer Opportunities from Guidance:


The Governor's School for the Arts is still looking to audition students from Isle of Wight that are interested in Theatre or Visual Arts.  If you have an interest in either one of these areas, please contact your guidance counselor as soon as possible.


DUAL CREDIT COURSES

Students if you have an interest in taking dual credit courses, you may eligible to take these courses free of charge.  Students must meet certain criteria in order to participate.  You may contact Ms. Candice Artis, In-School Youth Programs Coordinator, at Paul D. Please be sure to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible. Many colleges have March 1st deadlines for the submission of FAFSA forms.  If you have any questions, please see your guidance counselor.

Any senior who has NOT placed a cap and gown order must go directly through Jostens to complete this ordering process. Letters were sent directly from Jostens to these seniors; however, there was a mistake regarding the website for Jostens ordering. New Information about School Clubs:


 FCCLA - Thursday, March 21st

FCCLA meeting on Thursday, March 21st at 3:00pm in room 90.  All members are asked to bring an Easter basket, stuffed animal and candy and toys to make Easter baskets for the Genieve Shelter.



The Green Club meets in Room 25 at 3:00 p.m. on Mondays.


FBLA meet every Wednesday, 3:00 p.m.-

3:45 p.m. in room 74, Mrs. Betty Carter’s.


















Cell Phone Policy:

When a student first violates the Possession of Electronic Device Policy of Isle of Wight County Schools (Policy JECR) and the phone has been confiscated, then the student and his/her parent must meet with an administrator to complete a cell phone contract. Administrators may be available in the afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00 to hold cell phone contract sessions with parents and students.

**Parents, please, call in advance to schedule an appointment with an administrator prior to coming to school to complete a first-offense cell phone contract.


After School Procedures:

**All students must be under the supervision of a coach, a sponsor, or a teacher by no later than 3:00 p.m. daily; students will not be allowed in the halls or in the commons after 3:00 p.m.


**All students must leave campus by no later than 4:00 p.m. daily unless they are under the direct supervision of a coach or a sponsor. Students remaining after school must have prior-arranged transportation to leave campus by 4:00 p.m. or at the immediate conclusion of school activities.
