Smithfield High School’s Culinary Arts classes competed in their own version of the Food Network reality show “Chopped.”
Students worked in teams of 2-3 to prepare an appetizer and burger entree for a panel of judges. The twist? Chef Scott Horne provided “secret ingredients” teams had to use during the two rounds.
To prepare, teams brainstormed ways to make their dishes stand out -- frying pickles, caramelizing onions and concocting sauces.
The judges included Principal Bryan Thrift and representatives from IWCS Central Office.
