Packer Debate Earns 5th consecutive VHSL Class 4 State Championship

The Smithfield Debate Team won 1st place in the VHSL State Tournament for the FIFTH consecutive time, competing against debaters from John Handley, Warwick, Blacksburg, Great Bridge, Grafton, and Broad Run. 


Samantha Solomon earned a 1st place win in Student Congress, flawlessly serving as presiding officer over regular and super session chambers in addition to preparing for 12 different topics. The team of Cameron Barrett and Sidney McAlear placed 2nd in Policy, debating the topic of criminal justice reform. Jason Cox earned 3rd place in Lincoln Douglas field, debating whether the United States ought to guarantee universal child care. The team of Shelby Jones and Rachel Klinger placed 4th in the state, debating the benefits and the harms of the International Monetary Fund. Congratulations to Packer Debate!
