Wednesday, November 17 2021: Smithfield High School JROTC hosted their very first side-by-side Air Rifle competition; teams from Bethel, Prince George, and Thomas Dale High Schools all participated. The Packers swept the competition: Team Captain, Diamond Whitehead, placed second in prone; Caroline Lewton placed second in standing, kneeling, and overall; and Colton Stalls placed first in every event: prone, standing, kneeling, and overall. In the individual overall, the cadets placed 1st through 4th: Colton Stalls, first with a score of 492; Caroline Lewton, second with a 476; Connor Havron, third with a 472; and Diamond Whitehead, fourth with a 465. Overall, the Smithfield Varsity team scored 1905, earning them first place in the competition and a chance to compete in the 4th Brigade Best of the Best Air Rifle competition in January. The top 20 Army JROTC teams from Maryland to South Carolina compete in this invitational match to determine the best team in the Brigade.
