Congratulations to Mr. Burton, one of our Spanish teachers, whose grant request was fully funded. Smithfield High School would like to thank the Isle of Wight Education Foundation for their continued support!
With the grant money, Mr. Burton will buy books for Spanish 3 and 4 students. The first Sonrisas ocultas (Hidden Smiles) is an anthology of stories about going to school during COVID while wearing masks. The other is a graphic novel, Magalina y el bosque de los animales mágicos (Magalina and the Forest of Magical Animals), whose themes include magical creatures, cryptids, and interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships. He's excited for students’ reading and writing abilities to grow thanks to this grant!
