SHS JROTC Drill Team Wins Competition

PORTSMOUTH, VA December 10th – In its 2nd competition of the year, the Smithfield High School JROTC Drill Team won 1st Place overall honors at the annual JROTC Drill classic conducted at Manor High School, Portsmouth, VA.

Competing against five other JROTC Teams, the Packer Drill Team placed in all seven events:  

1st Place: Unarmed Platoon and Armed Squad
2nd Place: Colorguard and Unarmed Squad
3rd Place: Inspection, Armed Platoon and LET 1 Unarmed Squad.
 
 “This year’s team is mostly new cadets (only five returning cadets from last year), which makes this win very special, '' said First Sergeant(1SG) Marvin Hunter, Smithfield AJROTC Army Instructor and Drill Team coach. “I’m so proud of the team and their commitment to excellence. Now we need to take this momentum, maintain focus and not get complacent as we prepare for our next competition.”
