Feb 15th – CAMP PERRY, OHIO - The Smithfield HS JROTC Rifle Team traveled to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Competition Center complex in Port Clinton, Ohio, this week to compete in the Army JROTC (AJROTC) Air Rifle Northeast Regional Championships at Camp Perry. The team was one of 27 AJROTC teams in the entire northeast section of the US to qualify for this competition. Team Captain, Nymiar Towns, led the team posting a 510 and 509 out of 600 possible points on the two days of shooting and he placed 29th at the match. The team placed 17th overall and placed 2nd from the state of Virginia. During the two-day competition (60 shots each day) Nymiar Towns earned the gold Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) pin by shooting 510 or over and the other team members: Ryder Swedlund earned the silver CMP pin by shooting over a 480 out of a possible 600 points and cadets Joey Frey, James Goodrich and Miranda Hensley all qualified for the bronze CMP pin by shooting over a 440.
“I am very proud of these cadets! They shot very well this week, especially when 4 of our 5 shooters have never been to this competition. I could not be prouder,” said Coach LTC (Ret) Peter Badoian.
