On Friday, March 21, representatives from IWCS including: Dr. Christopher Coleman, Ellen Couch, Director of Child Nutrition and the Isle of Wight Land Lab staff of Farm Manager Daniel Judkins and Agriculture teacher Jason Brittle, accompanied by Walter S. Newman FFA members Emma Barnes, Clay Causey, and Jordan Baldwin, traveled to Richmond to witness Governor Glenn Youngkin sign two bills—HB1910 and SB1289—aimed at eliminating artificial dyes in public school meals. The group had the opportunity to discuss initiatives in Child Nutrition and the Isle of Wight County Agriculture Land Lab with several Senators, as well as the Secretaries of Agriculture, Education, and Health. Our focus remains on growing healthy foods for our community, and today's events underscore the importance of providing nutritious, dye-free meals to students across Virginia.
