IWCS In-Person Continuum Students Moving to Temporary Remote for Two Weeks After Winter Break

Because of concerns with school and community health data, Dr. Thornton announced he is moving students on the in-person continuum to the temporary remote learning model for the two weeks following Winter Break, beginning January 4 and lasting through January 15. Smithfield High School to Perform Holiday Radio Show

The SHS theater department seeks to capture the nostalgia of the classic story, "It’s a Wonderful Life," through the production of a radio show. The show will be streamed on December 24 and December 25. The streaming link will be available on the SHS website.

Athletics Update

Isle of Wight County Schools will pause all athletic activities until January 19. During this time, the division will continue to monitor updates from the Virginia High School League (VHSL) that may impact athletic programs at both high schools. The pause will allow IWCS to review mitigation strategies and re-assess its plans. High schools will share information with student athletes and their parents as additional information is available.

Sports Practices Cancelled Dec. 14-15

Based on the new guidance that we received from the VHSL late Thursday evening, we are canceling practices for Monday and Tuesday. This will allow us time to assess the impact that the new restrictions may have on our student-athletes' participation in winter sports moving forward.
