Isle of Wight County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Aston Williams as Principal of Smithfield High School. The School Board approved Williams’ appointment at its May 14, 2026, meeting. Williams has served as Acting Principal of SHS since September 2025 and has been a member of the school’s administrative team since 2022, previously serving as an Assistant Principal. Before joining IWCS, he held leadership and instructional roles with Suffolk Public Schools, including Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, and Special Education Teacher.
Williams brings more than 13 years of experience in education, with a background in instructional leadership, student support, school safety, community partnerships, and special education. He holds a Bachelor of Science in English-Special Education and a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education degree. “Mr. Williams has demonstrated steady, student-centered leadership during his time at Smithfield High School,” said Superintendent Dr. Theo Cramer. “His commitment to students, families, staff, and the broader school community makes him well prepared to continue leading SHS with consistency, compassion, and a focus on excellence.”
